Abstract
The copper content of those alloys described in Specification 350,110 having a magnesium content of 0,7-1,75 per cent, is increased to 2,5-6,0 per cent. Manganese and other elements may also be added as described in Specification 425,102. The alloys may be subjected to artificial ageing at 100-190 C., for from 12 to 2 hours, to solution treatment followed by natural ageing in air for seven days or more, or to solution treatment and artificial ageing: the alloys may be cast or forged and may be extruded, rolled spun or pressed; the forging and solution treatment temperatures for high copper alloys should be kept low, e.g. for an alloy with 4,5 per cent of copper, the solution treatment temperature should not exceed 510 DEG C., for more than a few minutes. The alloys may be used for pulleys, airscrews, fans, free-machining bars, lever stampings and shields for the ignition apparatus of aircraft. Specifications 323,353, 328,138, [both in Class 82 (i)], and 350,021 also are referred to.
