433,933. Fluid - blast switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. March 26, 1935, No. 9433. Convention date, March 26, 1934. [Class 38 (v)] In a gas-blast switch in which the opening operation produces the arc-extinguishing blast by means of a piston or the like under the action of an energy - accumulator, means are provided for charging the latter for the production of the compressed gas independently of the actual switching-in movement and during the switching-in operation, whereby both operations can be performed by hand. To close the switch, the arm e is moved to the dotted position in which it is held by latch k, so raising the piston b and tensioning the spring f. The arm g is then moved to the dotted position in which the movable contact a engages and seals the fixed nozzle contact c, in which position it is held by the engagement of rod h with latch m. To open, the latch k is moved by hand or by an electromagnet, so enabling the spring f to pull down the arm e and compress the air in cylinder d. Near the end of its travel, the arm e strikes the latch m and frees the rod h, the spring i lowering the contact a and releasing the compressed air from the cylinder. The arrangement ensures that the energy accumulator is charged before the switch can be closed.
