Abstract
433,698. Supplying consuming devices. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.- (Assignees of Lord, H. W. ; 1103, Palmer Avenue, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Nov. 15, 1933, No. 31858. Convention date, Nov. 17, 1932. [Class 38 (iv)] An arrangement for controlling the voltage across a load 11 supplied from an A.C. generator 10 comprise a number of inductive windings across which pairs of reversely connected valves are connected means being provided for maintaining a predetermined division of load between the valves. Pairs of valves 15, 16 and 17, 18 are connected across the secondary winding 14 of the transformer 12, control of current being effected by supplying the grids from a phase-shifting circuit 23, 24, 25. A resistance 19 is connected between the mid-point of the pairs of valves and the mid-point of the winding 14 to effect load sharing. A thermal switch 26 is connected in the grid circuit and the resistance 1<a> used as a heater so that if an unbalance of load persists the switch opens and renders the valves non-conducting. Load division may also be effected by giving the transformer 12 a large leakage reactance. In a modification in which this is utilized the primary winding 13 is in two parts mounted on separate limbs which carry cophasal secondaries. The resistance 19 is connected in parallel with the series groups of valves.
