[Class 35] It is stated that a single-phase squirrelcage motor in which the spacing of the rotor bars differs from that of the stated poles, either because the numbers of the two are different, or because the stator poles are unequal in size, has a number of positions of magnetic equilibrium in which there is no starting torque, separated by positions in which, when the rotor is stationary, there is a torque urging the rotor towards a position of equilibrium, and that if the rotor is stopped in one of the latter positions it will start from rest. For this purpose the rotor is provided with an eccentric weight 3. In order to balance the rotor during running a weight 4 is provided in a casing 8 so. as to move outwards when the motor is running against the action of a spring 6, and balance the weight 3. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a magnetically controlled pawl for stopping the rotor. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
