Abstract

431,996. Copying - telegraphs. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Dec. 11, 1934, No. 35555. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1933. [Class 40 (iii)] In a telegraph of the Hell type, the rotation of the spiral at the receiver is stopped at the end of each scanning-line and released by a synchronizing-signal. Thus the rotating spiral 3 (against which the straight edge 6 is intermittently pressed so that the carbon 5 may be caused to mark the paper strip 4 with vertical lines which build up the received characters) is arrested by a detent 10 at the end of each scanning-line and released by a synchronizing impulse applied to the magnet 8 at the beginning of each scanning-line. The start impulse may be sent by projections added to the transmitter cams for that purpose, or by a separate cam. In a modification the spiral 3 may be stopped at the end of each scanning-line by short-circuiting a motor-regulating resistance, the short-circuit being completed through two contacts, one controlled by the printing cylinder bearing the spiral 3, and the other by the magnet 8.
