Abstract
465,238. Code telegraphy. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 24, 1936, No. 20527. Convention date, Aug. 30, 1935. [Class 40 (iii)] A repeater comprises contacts (of relay 101) for impressing signal conditions of either polarity on the outgoing side of the line and a receiving relay 102 for signals in the opposite direction and having two windings one of which is connected to the return side of the line whereas the other is a balancing winding connected to said contacts. The repeater is adjusted for different lines by a resistance 103 and the balancing circuit includes an artificial line 107 which may be a resistance. On transmission of a marking condition relay 102 is held in the marking condition by current in its line winding which is approximately twice the current (spacing) in the balancing winding. On transmission of a spacing condition, the line is substantially without current and the balancing winding of 102 is in a direction holding the relay in marking position. Current surges due to line capacity to ground do not affect 102. To prevent 102 from being changed over by spacing current in the balancing winding on transmission of a marking impulse due to the delay of the impulse by the line, a capacity network 106 may be connected as shown or an inductance 105 may be used to delay the arrival of spacing current in the balancing winding.
