Abstract
459,034. Type-printing telegraphy. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. July 23, 1936, No. 20473. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1935. [Class 40 (iii)] Character elements, Fig. 1, from which any letter or numeral can be built up are carried on a type-wheel 1, Fig. 2, which makes one revolution for each character. The transmitting apparatus comprises a cam 2 for each character having depressions s4, s6, s11, s14 corresponding to the elements e4, e6, e11, e14 required to constitute that character (e.g. the letter E). A receiving magnet 5 is normally energized, but on the commencement of rotation of cam 2 is released to release the type-wheel 1 and a cam wheel 4 to make one revolution. The wheel 4 has as many projections as the type-wheel has elements and when the magnet 5 is de-energized due to the engagement of spring 3 with a depression s4 &c., a projection on cam 4 acts through arms 9, 7 to cause a printing hammer 8 to move the tape 9<1> against the corresponding type element. The elements of a character are all printed within the same character field, the tape 9<1> being advanced a step at the end of each revolution. In a modification, the cam 4 and the magnet 5 control series contacts in the circuit of a magnet controlling the hammer 8.
