[Class 99 (ii)] A pipe line t<2> serving to convey a liquid from a piping t is emptied and/or cleaned before a different liquid from a piping t<1> is conveyed therethrough by a cylindrical brush, Fig. 2, which is forced through the pipe t<2> by compressed air controlled by an inlet valve k. The brush may also be used as a separator between the two liquids. The brush is normally located within a thin sheet tubular jacket which is mounted in the vertical branch of a box A at the inlet end of the pipe and is introduced into the pipe by a screwed rod and hand wheel a to enable the brush to travel along the pipe to a second box A at the outlet end, where it is extracted by removing the cover b of the outlet box. The brush is composed of cylindrical rings, the terminal ones having a hemispherical or tapered end surface, which have peripheral tufts of bristles and are connected by a spring &c. to permit the brush to move freely along any curves or deformations of the pipe, and the pipe may be provided with brush passage indicators e.
