Abstract

287,021. Lewis, J. Nov. 11, 1927. Cleaning internally, non-rotary appliances and; fluid-pressure processes for.-Apparatus for cleaning pipes, tubes, and other conduits consists of a scraper impelled through the tube by the fluid flowing therein, the arrangement being such that the obstruction of the flow of fluid by the apparatus can be suddenly removed in order that the rush of fluid resulting may clear the pipe &c. The scraper consists of a head 1 carrying blades 2 and a body 3 carrying oppositely disposed ploughs 5, 6 pressed outwards by spring blades 4. The fluid pressure acts on a disc constituted by segments 11 pivoted at 12 and supported against the fluid pressure by compression springs 15 carried by a member 14 which, when withdrawn by pulling a cable 19, allows the segments to collapse and permits the fluid to pass freely. The head 1 may be used detached from the rest of the apparatus.
