Abstract
431,743. Pistons. SPENGLER, M., 282, Sihlquai, Zurich, Switzerland. Aug. 23, 1934, No. 24367. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1933. [Class 122 (i)] In an aluminium alloy piston having horizontal slots 8 between the head and skirt terminated by members 4 carrying the gudgeon pin, struts 7 extend across the inside of the skirt parallel to the gudgeon pin. The struts may be arched, the chord joining their ends being parallel to the gudgeon. Members 4 may be slotted at 6 to provide access for lubricant to the gudgeon pin and the skirt may be slit. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the following subject-matter. The struts 7 may be of material differing from that of the piston and having a different coefficient of expansion. Each strut may be replaced by a number of small struts or may be grooved or slotted or of J-section. An additional web of I-section may extend across the head between the members 4. The piston skirt may be oval in shape, the small axis being in line with the gudgeon pin. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
