Abstract

High-pressure lubricants are composed of a mineral oil base, free sulphur or a soluble " corrosive " sulphur compound, and a separate organic halogen compound. 10--50 per cent. of soap of aluminium, soda, or lime may be added. 0,2--3,0 per cent of " corrosive " sulphur is suitable, e.g., in the form of added free sulphur, West Texas oil residues, sulphurized animal, vegetable, fish, or mineral oils, and organic polysulphides such as those prepared from mineral oils or waxes. A suitable content of chlorine is 0,1--0,6 per cent, maybe as chlorinated fatty oils or acids, chlorinated mineral oils and waxes, carbon tetrachloride, chlorinated aromatic compounds, or equivalent bromine or fluorine compounds. In an example, 2,8 per cent of sulphurized pine oil and 1,5 per cent of chlorinated paraffin wax containing 40 per cent of chlorine, are added to a Pennsylvanian base oil of 120 sec. Saybolt at 210 DEG F.
