Abstract

431,232. Electric hot - plates. MOFFATS, Ltd., Blackburn, and SMITH, E. S., 11, Somerset Avenue, Wilpshire, near Blackburn. June 18, 1934, No. 18024. [Class 39 (iii)] [See also Group XXXVI] A hot-plate element is formed by winding a thin sheet metal channel A containing an insulated wire C into spiral form. The insulation used is a refractory cement or magnesium hydroxide formed by subjecting a magnesium tube surrounding the wire to the action of steam under pressure. The spiral is wound around a metal member G and the turns are clamped by an outer metal ring. Adjacent turns are welded together at J. The electric connections F pass through lava bushes E held in position by clips K. An apron L is welded to the edge of the plate to protect the bushes from spilt liquids. The plate may be in the form of two concentric rings. The wire C may be in zig-zag or flat coil form.
