Abstract
224,951. Berry, A. F. Aug. 20, 1923. Hot-plates.-In a hotplate a provided with insulated electric heating elements e arranged in contact with or near to the underside of the plate, the outer peripheral portion for a suitable width thereof, and the peripheral edge also if desired, is or are covered or coated with a material which retards loss of heat therefrom, the width of the said outer peripheral portion being substantially the same as the width of the covering or coating material. In Fig. 4, the plate is surrounded by a polished nickel-plated ring b of r-section fitting into a recess in the plate. An asbestos ring c may be fitted, as shown. In Figs. 5 and 6, the ring b is insulated from the plate by a layer of air and a layer of asbestos respectively. In Fig. 7, a layer b<1> of nickel is formed on the outer peripheral portion and the peripheral edge of the plate by electrodeposition. In a modification, this nickel layer is replaced by a coating of refractory enamel. Fig. 9 shows a hot plate fitting into a recess in a hob a from which it is separated by insulation d'. A flat nickel ring b' is fitted to the plate, as shown. The underside of the hot-plate may be fluted or ribbed to facilitate transfer of heat.
