Abstract
Cold soluble starch, obtained by drying starch, materials containing starch, or derivatives of starch in thin layers, e.g. on metal plates or rollers, is moistened and then gently heated, e.g. to 50 DEG C. in order to reduce its swelling velocity in water and its bulk. The water may be added as vapour, snow, or in a spray, or the material may take up the desired amount of water e.g. 12 per cent, from moist air. To the treated material may be added untreated cold soluble starch, salts, borax, soap, weak or strong alkalis, talc, china clay, gelatine, glue, milled gums or resins, starch, dextrine, rubber latex, fat, oil, wax, paraffin or fatty alcohols, if desired in solution or suspension in the water. The product may be milled. Specification 392,342 is referred to.
