430,719. Harvesting potatoes. KERWAT, G., Antsodehnen, East Prussia, Germany. Feb. 13, 1935, No. 4605. [Class 6 (iii)] Potatoes lifted by a share 19 carried by a depending frame section 20 are directed into a short cylinder 14 provided with a front flange 15 and rotated in rollers 16 carried in ball bearings in a frame 17 : the cylinder is cotinued as a sieve 23 formed by helical wire windings fastened at their front end to the cylinder, passing loosely around it and extending through slots in a rear flange 24 on the cylinder. The windings may be shaped to form a helical thread on the sieve. A guide 21 presses the haulm down into the cylinder and a helical rib in the cylinder feeds the potatoes rearwardly to the sieve. The cylinder and sieve are rotated by chain wheels 12, 13 from a shaft 11 driven through adjustable gearing from the main axle.
