Abstract

Iron is removed from water by treatment with potassium ferrocyanide to remove ferric iron and potassium ferricyanide to remove ferrous iron, the precipitates being rendered readily filterable by adding a soluble or insoluble zinc compound such as zinc sulphate or zinc oxide. The quantities of ferric and ferrous iron to be removed may be determined colorimetrically by the use of dipyridyl.
