428,683. Mowing-machines. BAMFORD, J., St. Mary's Mount, and BAMFORD, C. J., The Parks, both in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. Oct. 17, 1933, No. 28682. [Class 6 (iii)] [See also Groups XXVI and XXXII] To reduce shocks in the driving-mechanism of the cutter bar of a mowing-machine a non- metallic elastic deformable member is introduced at one or more positions in the mechanism between the driving shaft and the knife bar coupling. In the form shown the knife bar 20 is fitted with a shock absorbing unit consisting of a rubber sleeve 26 between two metal sleeves 24, 27, the trunnion 19 at the end of the connecting rod fitting within the sleeve 27 ; the strap 18 of the trunnion projects into a slot 17 in the connecting rod and is secured therein by bolts 21 provided with cushioning sleeves 22. In other modifications a rubber cushioning sleeve is fitted round the metal bearing at the crank disc end of the connecting rod ; this bearing may be spherical to give a universal movement, and may be a ball bearing. In another modification the metal disc carrying the crank pin may be secured to a metal disc on the driving shaft by rubber surrounded bolts and a disc of rubber placed between the two metal discs. In yet another form the connecting rod may be in two parts, a shock absorbing pad of rubber or like material being placed between the parts.
