Abstract

In electrical precipitators of the kind comprising tubular collecting electrodes b and flexible discharge electrodes c passing therethrough, and connected to frame members e, e<1>, swinging of the discharge electrodes is prevented or minimized by making one or more of the electrodes d of a rigid or semi-rigid construction connected rigidly or with a limited amount of freedom to the lower supporting frame member. As shown, the member d is made rigid and is rigidly supported at the top of the casing by the insulator i<1> and centring screws e<2>. The upper frame e is rigidly clamped to the member d and is further supported by <PICT:0428471/III/1> adjustable ties e<5>. The lower frame e<1> may be rigidly attached to the member d or, alternatively, may have a limited movement relatively thereto and be connected by adjustable ties. The wire electrodes c may be kept taut by weights e<12> suspended from the lower frame e<1> or, where the latter is rigidly attached to the member d they may be tightened by screw connections. A preferable form of the rigid electrode d is shown in Fig. 4 as comprising two angle sections d welded together at their corners and serrated on the free edges.
