[Class 44] A fastener of the type in which two stringers or tapes 2 are connected along their edges comprises closely spaced hook members 1 on each stringer which are caused to interlie and to embrace a cable or cord 15 inserted in the mouths of the hooks 1 by a slider similar to the usual form in sliding-clasp fastenings but provided with a tubular portion 18, Fig. 14, having fingers 25, 26 for feeding the cable into the channel 14 which is formed by the interlying hooks and which is fully opened by the hooks being rocked to a position as in Fig. 4 by the angular shape of the lower part of the slider passageway. The hooks are re-aligned after leaving the slider and so retain the cable by the noses approaching each other. The cable is secured at its ends to one of the stringers or one end may be attached to a spring reel on the slider and paid out as required. For a separable fastener one stringer is provided at the end with a thin plate 32, Fig. 18, adapted to be passed through the slider and to be fixed to the end member 16 of the other stringer by a pin and key-hole fastening, 34, 35. The fastening in its closed position may be covered by a tape sewn to one stringer and spread by an overlying plate on the slider. The hook members are attached by clenching their serrated legs on to a thickened part of the tape 2, Fig. 11, formed by doubling over the tape and providing an inner fold 5 therein.
