[Classes 8 (i) and 102 (i)] In a pump for liquids or gases the suction port 6 and the discharge port 7 are controlled by a loose piston 2, which tends to move upwards under the influence of an air cushion in the space 5 between the piston 2 and the cover 4. The upward movement is limited by the engagement of a washer 9 on a stud 10 with the end of the barrel 3. The barrel and pistons may be made of glass.
