Abstract

A solvent for the removal of olefines from gas mixtures comprises a solution of a cuprous salt in an aqueous hydroxy-alkylamine. The solution preferably also contains a salt, such as the hydrochloride or formate, of the hydroxyalkylamine. A typical example consists of 100 gms. of cuprous chloride, 300 gms. of water, 75 c.cs. of hydrochloric acid of density 1,16, and 200 gms. of monoethanolamine. The gas to be treated should be previously freed from acetylene if present.
