Abstract

427,831. Spectacles. FORKNALL, A. J., Cleveleys, Ross Road, Hereford. Jan. 1, 1934, No. 16. [Class 97 (i)] A spectacle frame providing a limited adjustment of the lenses in a vertical plane comprises a fixed bridge connecting the lenses and carrying a pair of nose pads which can be adjusted vertically with respect to. the bridge while the spectacles are being worn, and an actuating member for adjusting both pads simultaneously. Several constructions are described. In Fig. 1 the bridge 1 carries a pair of tubes 4 in which rods 6 carrying the pads 5 are slidably mounted. The side arms of a yoke 10 are formed at their lower ends as bell-cranks which are pivoted at 7 to the rods 6 and journalled at their outer ends in the lower ends 12 of springs 8, the upper ends of which are secured to the tubes 4. On depressing the yoke 10 its cranked ends turn about the pivots 12 causing the rods 6 to be withdrawn from the tubes 4. The springs 8 cause the yoke to be retained in either its depressed or its raised position. In Fig. 5 the pads 5 are carried by slotted membes 19 slidably mounted on the frame and having rack teeth engaged by pinions 21 on a spindle 20 which can be rotated by a lever 22.
