Abstract
426,631. Refrigerating. CRACKNELL R. J., and U. D. ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., Abbey Works, Cumberland Avenue, Park Royal, London. Sept. 7, 1933, No. 24803. [Class 29] The flow of refrigerant from the condenser to the evaporator is controlled by a valve 25 operated by a bell-float 27 provided with a small leak-hole 29 and disposed in a chamber connected at 15 to the condenser. In the position shown, liquid refrigerant flows from the condenser into the chamber and thence over the weir 20 into the well 17 from which it passes to the evaporator. When the flow of liquid from the condenser ceases, vapour passes into the bell which increases in buoyancy and finally rises and closes the valve. Vapour continues to flow into the bell until the pressure therein equals that in the condenser after which liquefaction again takes place in the condenser. Meanwhile, vapour leaks from the bell into the upper part of the chamber and the bell gradually sinks and re-opens the valve.
