Abstract

Refrigerating, compression machines for. - The admission of liquid refrigerant to the cooling element of the system is controlled automatically by a float-operated valve arranged in the lower chamber of a receiver, the upper part of which forms a gas or air collecting chamber having a cock for purging operations and a surrounding jacket with means for controlling the admission of refrigerant for extra cooling effect while charging a new machine. The receiver casing 1 is divided by a partition 2 into a float chamber 3 and an air collecting chamber 4, the float 15 having a stem projecting through an aperture in the partition and controlling, by means of a lever 14, a valve 17 in the passage 5 leading to the outlet pipe 6. Surrounding the upper chamber is a jacket 7 that communicates with the passage 5 through a manually controlled valve 10. The liquid refrigerant enters by the pipe 21 from the condenser. Air or other foreign gas may be purged off by opening the cock 22, depletion of the refrigerant being limited by the stem 19 of the float which acts as a piston to lift the float during such operation.
