May 10, 1934, No. 14174. Convention date, May 10, 1933. [Class 145 (i)] In a machine for cutting veneers from wood, the cutter carriage is reciprocated by one or more reversible electric motors mounted on or incorporated in the carriage so as to move therewith. As shown, an electric motor b mounted on the cutter carriage a drives a shaft e having at its ends pinions f engaging racks g mounted on the machine frame. Reversal is effected by means of a switch k which is operated by the sliding carriage at each end of its stroke. The motor b is preferably controlled by the Ward-Leonard system ; a shunt regulator m is situated near the machine for controlling the strokes ; the dymano n and generator o may be at some distance from the machine so that they are not affected by the moisture present during cutting. A control board q is arranged on the machine. Where several motors are used, they may be coupled together to drive the shaft e or they may drive it independently of each other.
