425,557. Feeding webs. BROWN, A. S., 9, Carlaverock Road, and DALGLISH, J., Avenue Iron Works, Pollokshaws, both in Glasgow. Oct. 12, 1933, No. 28151. [Class 100 (i)] A device for guiding cloth and other webs transversely into machines without tension in the weft or the warp has a nozzle A and an aligned pipe D arranged at each selvedge, the pipe being coupled to a diaphragm chamber G so that a stream of air passing from the nozzle into the pipe acts on the diaphragm H, the interruption of this stream by either selvedge causing a correcting movement to be applied to grinding rollers 1, 2 connected to the diaphragm. The rollers may grip the cloth U continuously and be turned against the action of a spring or they may be at a fixed angle to the cloth but only in contact when held together by the air pressure on the diaphragm. In Fig. 2, a roller-carrying bracket Q is swivelled about a vertical axis against a torsion spring by a rod N pivoted to a lever M connected by a rod L to the rubber diaphragm H. The fulcrum O of the lever is adjusted by a screw W. Spring-pressed bearings hold the lower roller against the upper one. The pipe D and nozzle A are both mounted in a bracket B connected to a main body F in which the bracket Q is pivoted and to which the chamber G is attached. The diaphragm is clamped by a cover J an inlet T in which is connected by a flexible pipe to the pipe D. The chamber G has a vent hole V.
