Abstract

425,252. Coin-freed apparatus. PYE, J. R., 164, Eccleshall Road, Hook Gate, near Market Drayton, Shropshire. Dec. 21, 1933, No. 35925. [Class 27] Coin action, mechanical-connection and multiple-coin.-Coin-freed mechanism having a number of shoots for the passage of coins of different denominations is provided with rocking members controlling the paths of the coins in each shoot and rocked by the passage of a coin down any one of the shoots, the arrange. ment being such that a succession of coins to the required value clears a path for the final coin of the series to proceed to the releasing mechanism irrespective of the order in which the coins are inserted. As applied to a goods vending machine selling threepenny packets of goods and taking pennies and half-pennies in any order, half-pennies are inserted in a shoot 10, Figs. 1 and 2, and pennies in a parallel shoot 21. The first, third, and fifth half-pennies are diverted to a branch shoot 11 by a starshaped rocker 13, 14, 15 which controls the shoot 10 and which is reset by the passage of the second, fourth and sixth half-pennies, these coins then passing down shoot 12. The second halfpenny is diverted to a shoot 22 leading to the till by a double-rocker having a pair of arms 17, 18 controlling the halfpenny shoot and a similar pair 19, 20 controlling a junction in the penny shoot. The double-rocker is also moved to the position shown in dotted lines so that the fourth half-penny can pass along a shoot 23 to a junction controlled by a double three-armed rocker 25 ... 30 having a set of arms in the penny and half-penny shoots respectively. The fourth half-penny is diverted to the till along a branch 44 and clears a path for the sixth half-penny along a shoot 32 to the releasing mechanism, this coin in its passage resetting the rocker 25 .. 30. If three pennies are used, the first two are diverted by the double-rockers, which clear a path for the third to pass to the releasing mechanism, this coin also resetting the double-rocker 25 .. 30. Since each penny performs the same operation as every second half-penny, the sum of threepence may be made up of half-pennies and pennies inserted in any order. The last halfpenny actuating the releasing-mechanism passes to a slot 35 in a slide 34 forming part of the delivery drawer of the machine. It rests on a ledge 36 and projects sufficiently to raise a pawl 40 normally preventing withdrawal of the slide. The last penny acts in a similar way to release the delivery drawer. When the slide 34 is pulled out, an incline 41 thereon acts on a roller 42 to raise a rod 43 and reset the first double-rocker 17 ... 20 to its initial position. A third shoot for threepenny pieces is also provided.
