Coin action, mechanical-connection and multiple-coin.-One or two articles at the bottom of a pile y are ejected according to the size of the coin inserted. The pile y is supported by a table h beneath which are slides i, j, each having an upstanding tongue i<1>, j<1>, and a depending leg i<2>, j<2>. The tongue j<1> protrudes higher than the tongue i<1> and the leg i<2> extends lower than the leg j<2>. The tongues i<1>, j<1> pass through a slot in the table. An inserted coin passes down a shoot a into a pocket b on a slide having a handle c<1> protruding from the side or front of the machine. When a small coin is in the pocket b and the handle c<1> is pulled the coin x engages the leg i<2> and the slide only is moved, the tongue i<1> thereon pushing the lowermost article through a delivery aperture. A larger coin will engage the leg j<2> so that both slides i, j, are moved to deliver two articles. The length of the slot in the table for the tongue i<1>, j' is such that the latter cannot pass completely from under the remaining articles which are supported by the actuating tongue i<1> or j<1> during the delivery and return movements. During the delivery stroke the coin x rides over ratchet teeth on a fixed bar g as described in Specification 285,609. A trip lever q pivoted to the bar g prevents return of the coin pocket unless a full delivery stroke has been made. The handle and the delivery pocket are returned by a spring e, and, at the same time, a projection b<1> on the pocket engages the tongue i<2> to return the slides. During delivery the bottom of the shoot a is closed by a wire coil m<1> which normally is held clear of the shoot by the back of the coin pocket. If the coin pocket is empty sliding movement thereof is prevented by one end of a spring-controlled pivoted lever n, Fig. 8, the other end n<2> of which protrudes into the path of the slide i.
