Abstract

In the distillation of oleaginous materials of vegetable or animal origin in the presence of an alkali and a substance which increases the oil production decolourizing or active carbon may also be obtained. The materials may comprise seeds of plants of the genusarachis typified by ground nuts and pea nuts, grains, oily fruits, palm nuts, fish waste, &c. The reactive substance may comprise a fatty acid salt such as salts of acetic, butyric, oleic, stearic or naphthenic acid or an insoluble carbonate. Metallic oxides with or without metal particles may be added as catalysts. The distillation is effected at a temperature of 400--500 DEG C., and is assisted by the injection of water vapour.
