Abstract

424,735. Valve circuits for wireless reception. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. March 22, 1934, No. 9024. Convention date, May 18, 1933. [Class 40 (v)] The grid bias of one or more of the valves of an amplifier is caused to vary according to the strength and the frequency of the signals to which the amplifier is tuned. As shown, the grids of the controlled valves are connected to a point e on a resistance R4, one end of which is connected to the load resistance R3 of a diode 3 which rectifies the signals and the other end being connected to a variable tapping d on a potentiometer R5, R1 connected across a D.C. source 1, 2. Thus the potential of the point e is dependent on the strength of the rectified current in the resistance R3 and on the position of the slider d which is ganged to the tuning control of the amplifier. A permanent positive potential is applied to the anode of the diode 3 from a point a on the resistance R1 through a resistance R2 so that the anode never becomes negative whatever the position of the slider d. A modification is described, Fig. 2, (not shown), in which the automatic gain control is applied to one only of the amplifying valves.
