Abstract
421,786. Valve circuits for wireless reception. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. June 25, 1934, No. 18732. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1933. [Class 40 (v)] Automatic volume control in a super-heterodyne receiver is obtained by varying the anode voltage of the local oscillator inversely to the variation in the amplitude of the received signal. This results in a variation of the amplitude of the local oscillations to maintain the amplitude of the intermediate frequency constant. A high-frequency amplifier HV is followed by a first detector D1 which receives local oscillations from a back coupled valve 12. The intermediate frequency oscillations are amplified at MV and detected by the diode section of the diode-triode D2. The rectified output across resistance 7 is fed to the grid of the triode section of the valve D2 for amplification and is also applied to the grid of a valve 19 through a low-frequency suppressing filter F. The anode current of valve 19 thus varies in accordance with the amplitude of the intermediate frequency oscillations, and since it is in parallel with the oscillator 12, the anode voltage of the oscillator varies inversely to the variations of the intermediate frequency. The bias of the amplifiers HV and MV may also be controlled by the potential across the resistance 7. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 the high-frequency oscillations may be rectified and applied to the grid or anode of the local oscillator, or the rectified intermediate frequency oscillations may be applied to the grid of the local oscillator. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
