424,186. Obtaining decorticated fibres. STRAW FIBRES, Ltd., 128, Bishopsgate, London, and TIRAFERRI, L. R., 17, Via Mazzini, Bologna, Italy. May 15, 1933, No. 4613. [Class 120 (i)] The leaves or leaves and stalks of non-retted fibre-yielding plants such as flax, hemp, jute, ramie or rhea, sisal, palm leaf, cactus leaf, or aloe in a weathered and dry condition are subjected to a succession of decorticating actions such as breaking or crushing between rollers, shaking, scutching and teasing, and are moistened by spraying with an aqueous solution of a bactericide and /or germicide after the first and/or after the last decorticating action or between any two such actions. Bichloride of mercury is preferred as a bactericide. Specifications 408,007 and 410,144, are referred to.
