423,659. Air-intake silencers. ROBOTHAM, W. A., Park Leys, Duffield, and WHYMAN, G. H., Mashobra, Mostyn Avenue, Littleover, both near Derby. May 2, 1933, No. 12799. [Class 7 (ii)] Two frequencies or bands of frequencies are silenced by two resonator chambers in communication with the intake passage, but not connected with one another otherwise. The air intake to a carburetter a is by way of pipes e, b at right-angles to one another. The pipe e is surrounded by a pipe c of large diameter which forms an annular low-frequency chamber e<1> and is prolonged to form also a highfrequency chamber d<2> situated outside the band in the pipe and separated from the air intake passage by a diaphragm d<1>. The chambers e<1>, d<1> communicate with the air passage by way of holes g, d<3> respectively, which holes are located substantially at the bend in the air passage and also at a nodal point of the wave to be damped. The Complete and Provisional Specifications contain dimensions of parts for silencing frequency bands of 80 to 110, and 130 to 160.
