Abstract
422,902. Automatic circuit-breakers. LANG, R. J., 91, Rue Villiers de l'Isle-Adam, Paris. April 18, 1933, Nos. 11282 and 11283. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 20, 1933]. [Class 38 (v)] The Specification describes several forms of automatic circuit-breakers having fusible release members. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the movable contact bridge 13 pivoted loosely on a spindle 3, is maintained in engagement with fixed contacts 14 against the action of a spring 15 by means of a pawl 11 engaging a ratchet 10 fixed on the spindle 3, the fluted lower end of which is held by fusible material 4 contained in a fixed cup 2. A heating coil 7 in the circuit to be protected surrounds the cup 2 so that on overload, the fusible material melts and allows ratchet 10 to turn, thus opening the switch. In the modification shown in Fig. 11 manual releasing means are provided. A contact bridge 15<x> integral with a cup-shaped member 14<x> is biassed to the off position by a spring 21<ax> connected to a fixed strap 4<x> formed with a hollow cylindrical part 5<x> having ratchet teeth 6<x> on its lower edge. Passing through the part 5<x> is a rod 7<x> having extensions 12<x> engaging slots in a member 19<x> normally connected by fusible material to the cup 14<x>. The rod 7<x> has an annular shoulder having ratchet teeth 11<x> biassed into engagement with the fixed teeth 6<x> by a spring 21<x>. A handle 27<x> is slidably but non-rotatably connected with the rod 7<x> which is also provided with a push knob 28<x>. In operation the handle 27<x> rotates the rod 7<x>, the teeth 11<x> slipping over the teeth 6<x>, and the extensions 12<x>, acting through the members 19<x>, 14<x> rotate the bridge 15<x> to the on position where it is held by the teeth 6<x>, 11<x>. When an excess current passes in the coil 23<x>, the fusible material melts and the cup 14<x> rotates relative to the member 19<x> and rod 7<x> to open the switch. Manual release is effected by depressing knob 28<x> and hence rod 7<x> to disengage teeth 11<x> from fixed teeth 6<x> and allow the switch to be opened by spring 21<ax>. Alternatively, the rod 7<x> may be drawn down electromagnetically.
