[Class 131] [See also Group XXXVI] In a hair-waving appliance comprising a curler provided with an internal electric heater and an electrically-heated sheath adapted to be clipped over the curler, the heaters are connected together in series by a coupling, the members of which are permanently connected to the curler and the sheath respectively and are engaged with each other either manually or automatically when the sheath is engaged with the curler. As shown in Fig. 1, the sheath comprises a pair of jaws 1 provided with handles 1<b> and connected hingedly by springs 1<a>, the jaws being adapted to embrace the curler 8. The electric heaters in the sheath and in the curler are provided respec. tively with terminals 12, 17, Figs. 1 and 2, the terminal 12 forming a pivot for a block 13 of insulating material which is connected thereto by a grub screw 14. The block 13 is provided with a spring metal strip 15, one end of which permanently engages the terminal 12 and the other end of which enters a recess in the block and is bent to form a U-shaped clip 16 adapted, after the sheath is clipped on the curler, to be engaged with the terminal 17. The block 13 may be connected to one of the jaws 1 so that the coupling is made automatically when the sheath is closed. In a modification, the insulated block 13 is formed in two halves, each of which is pivoted on the terminal 12, is connected to one of the jaws 1, and carries a spring contact strip 15, the lower ends of the strips being bent up to form contacts between which the terminal 17 is gripped when the sheath is applied to the curler. In a further modification, the terminal 12 has attached thereto a zig-zag spring adapted to engage a contact ring on the terminal 17, the terminals and spring being situated in a recess in a housing attached to one of the springs securing the jaws 1 together. Current is supplied to the terminals at the other ends of the heaters by leads connected respectively to a contact rubbing on the terminal of one of the heaters and to a spring clip mounted in a recess in a block of insulating material and adapted to be engaged with the terminal of the other heater, the block being pivoted on the terminal of the first heater.
