[Class 131.] In hair-waving apparatus comprising a casing for interiorly-heated winding spindles 20, two casing sections 2 are held together by springs 16 totally to enclose the spindle and opposed and reduced semi-cylindrical projections 12 clamp the spindle adjacent its ends. The inner edges of the bottom walls 28, Fig. 4, are maintained separated so as to present a longitudinal slot 30 through which the hair may pass freely. The sections 2 are formed with handles 4 and with semi-cylindrical portions 6 adapted to receive a pivot rod 8. The projections 12 are formed with extensions 14 in slots 18 whereof the circular springs 16 are engaged. A strip of felt may be inserted between the rod 8 and a portion 6 so as to provide a tight closure. The spindle may be heated by an electric resistance 24 having terminals 26. In use, an insulating clamp is applied near the roots of the hair which is then wound on the spindle. The casing sections are then applied with the hair passing through the slot 30. The hair is wound up further to cause the walls 28 to abut against the insulating clamp and seal the casing. In a modification, the rod 8 is formed as a heating tube containing an electric resistance having end terminals which may be connected, together with the terminals 26, to a supply by single double-plug sockets. The terminals may be replaced by four plug sockets and two-pin plugs. The rod 8 may have flanges adapted to engage externally the end walls of the sections. A sealing stuffing may be provided at the slot 30. The sections may be pressed from sheet metal and the handles and inner surfaces of the projections 12 may be ribbed or knurled.
