Abstract

389,523. Hair-curling appliances. SARTORY, P., 93, Regent Street, London. Sept. 18, 1931, No. 26197. [Class 131.] One end of a hair curler or waver carries a detachable clamp in which a tress can be placed while detached from the curler ; the re-connecting of the clamp with the curler forming a steam-tight joint between the clamped tress and the steam-heating appliance. In the illustrated form the detachable clamp comprises a threaded metal pin 5, with a head 2 covered with vulcanite and washers 3, 4 of flexible material such as indiarubber. The tress of hair is drawn through the central perforation in the washer 4 and the screwed end of the rod 5 engaged with the socket 7 by moving the latter axially and then rotating the member 9 until the hair is clamped between the washers 3, 4 and the washer 4 abuts against a spiral guide 10. The tress then is wound and bound on the curler 1, the spiral guide 10 giving it the initial twist after it emerges from the washer. The steam chamber 13 then is inserted over the curler and moved axially through the agency of the pin-and-slot mechanism 17a by rotating the cap 15 until the inner end makes a steamtight joint with the washer 4. A slot 9a receives the free end of the binding tape for the tress.
