Abstract

523,170. Hair-waving devices. BOWYER, A. G. Dec. 24, 1938, No. 37563. [Class 131] In a hair-waving device the hair is wound from root to tip around a spindle 12 within a chamber formed by two flanged discs 10, 11 provided with slots 20, 21 to receive the truss of hair. The upper disc 11 is rotated relatively to the lower disc 10 which carries the spindle 12, a slotted slide 15 serving to hold the discs together by engaging a groove in the spindle. Apertures 26, 27 are provided to facilitate rapid drying of the moistened tress by an electric heater element 61 carried by a cylindrical cap 57 having detents 59 adapted to clip over the curler. The heater element 61, consisting of a helical wire embedded in cement containing asbestos fibre, is placed below a partition 58. To test for steam coming from the curler, a mirror is held between the curler and a scalp protector 72. A number of heaters 57 are supported by an adjustable standard carrying a transformer.
