Abstract
422,156. Power-generating systems. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland. March 19, 1934, No. 8553. Convention date, March 18, 1933. [Class 122 (iii)] To prevent the corrosive action of oxygen and carbonic acid in the presence of saturated steam in steam power installations, at least part of the working medium in the form of steam, at a point beyond that where the medium performs useful work, is brought into contact with one or more liquid agents which effect the separation of the impurities in the medium before it enters the condenser. In the plant shown, steam from the generator 1 passes through a superheater to a turbine 3 which exhausts to a condenser 4. Pumps 6, 7 pass the condensate through a storage tank back to the boiler. A supplementary feed pump 9 is provided. A part of the exhaust only in the case of large pipes, passes through vessels 12, 13 containing calcium hydrate and sodium sulphite respectively. The carbonic acid turns the hydrate into carbonate which is deposited ; the oxygen turns the sulphite into sulphate which can be removed. Vessels or batteries may be arranged in parallel so that one may be used when the other is being cleaned, &c. The vessels may be temporarily or intermittently connected into the system. When several liquids are used, they may be separate or mixed in a single vessel. Pure liquid agents may be used in lieu of agents in solution. The vessels may be replaced by a pipe system, or the steam pipes themselves may contain the agents. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the steam may be passed through one or more agents before reaching the superheater. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
