421,974. Refrigerators. BERRY, A. F., 125, Strand, London. June 23, 1933, No. 17966. [Class 29] An evaporatively cooled cabinet comprises a heat-insulated casing 1 formed, e.g. of slabs of cellular material of the kind described in Specifications 329,291, [Class 22], 355,278, 355,655, and 365,154, [all in Group V], and covered internally and also, if desired, externally with sheet metal, and a porous storage chamber 5 spaced by ribs 5<a> from the casing and adapted to be moistened by water flowing through the perforate bottom of a reservoir 12. Apertures 3, 4, are provided in the outer casing to permit the flow of air by induced draught through the space between the casing and the storage chamber. The draught may be produced by a vacuum cleaner connected to either of the apertures or by connecting the aperture 4 to a chimney shaft. Vertical grooves may be provided in the storage chamber, which may also be bored at various places, to increase the evaporative surface thereof. Further, the inside of the storage chamber may be lined with sheet metal or coated with enamel. The storage chamber may be formed of slabs of a mixture of Portland cement and burnt brick-dust made in the manner described in Specification 421,973, [Group V], impregnated with a solution of sodium silicate and calcium chloride and immersed for several hours in boiling water.
