Abstract

421,895. Safety razors. GILLETTE SAFETY RAZOR CO., 15, West 1st Street, Boston, U.S.A. July 6, 1933, No. 19216. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1932. [Class 30] The blade 50, which has the usual closed medial slot 51, is slidable endwise through the means which connect the clamping- and guard-plates 10, 20, whilst these latter members remain at all times connected by the said means and in superposed relation. The connecting-means comprise a rotatable disc 40 having flanged parts 44, 45, engaging an undercut arcuate groove 13 in the clamping-plate, and separated by a gap 43, which is large enough to receive the end of the slotted blade 50. Endwise insertion of the latter turns the disc 40 to change-over from the flanged connection 44, Fig. 9a, to 45, Fig. 9b, the blade-end remaining in the gap 43 during the change - over. A spring - pressed plunger 48 snaps the disc 40 into its extreme positions. The blade can be adjustably flexed, the disc 40 being pivoted in the forked end of a plunger 36, retained, for limited axial movement in the handle, by a rotatable end-nut 33, itself axially retained by an offset cross-pin 34. The guard carries a blade-locating ball 24, which forms an antifriction bearing for the blade during its insertion. Blade-location is further effected by a guard-rib 23 and corner projections 15 at one end of the clamping-plate. These projections 15 serve also to unbalance the clamping-plate so that, when the clamping pressure is released, it tilts on the connecting- disc 40 and provides a wider gap between the clamping- and guard-plates at the end which receives the blade. At this end also the plates have arcuate finger-recesses 12, 25 cut therein. In the form shown, outward endwise movement of the plunger 36 is limited by a removable screw 39, but in a modification the screw 39 is replaced by a resiliently-mounted eccentric collar engaging a reduced part of the plunger 36 and movable, by depression of an external button, to a concentric position to allow the plunger to be withdrawn from the handle.
