Abstract

421,039. Paper-folding apparatus. ROWLES, S. G., Kethro, St. John's Road, Orping- ton, Kent. June 29, 1934, No. 19255. [Class 100 (i)] [See also Group XVII] Paper folding apparatus comprising a tucker cylinder 1 carrying a blade 8 adapted, as the cylinder rotates, to reciprocate in and out of a folding slot, is characterized in that the cylinder co-operates with a relatively fixed slot, such as the space between a pair of folding rolls 13, 14, and the blade is fixed to a shaft 8<x> rotatably carried in and between a pair of slide blocks 9 located in radial slideways 10 in the respective ends of the tucker cylinder, said shaft 8<x> being provided with a lever 15 whereby it may be oscillated, to clear the rollers 13, 14, as and when the slide blocks move in their slideways. The tucker cylinder 1, mounted on a fixed shaft 2, is rotated thereon by an angularly adjustable gear wheel, affixed by a set-screw, fitted to a coned end of the cylinder journal. Cams 3, fixed to the shaft 2, operate on the tucking blade 8 carried by the rotatable shaft 8<x>, which is in turn carried by the lever 15 and constrained to move in the slideways 10, to effect the radial movement of the same. The lever 15 is spring - biassed upwardly at 16 and is acted upon by a trip lever 16<x> pivoted to the cylinder 1 and moved at the appropriate times by a cam 18 through a roller 17. A bottom gumming device 19 is fitted when bag ends are to be operated upon. The apparatus is stated to be able to output varied lengths of product.
