Abstract
420,877. Separating gases by liquefaction and solidification. SOC. ANON. POUR LES APPLICATIONS DE L'ELECTRICITE ET DES GAZ RARES ETABLISSEMENTS CLAUDE-PAZ ET SILVA, 8, Rue Cognacq-Jay, Paris. June 21, 1934, No. 18422. Convention date, April 23. [Class 8 (ii)] [See also Group XI] In the process of filling electric incandescent lamp bulbs with krypton or xenon, either alone or in admixture, the gas or gases which remain in the filling tube or channel after the bulb has been sealed are extracted by means of a vacuum pump through a condenser immersed in liquid nitrogen, oxygen, or air, boiling under a pressure which is preferably equal to or lower than atmospheric. The krypton and xenon are thus deposited in the solid state, whereas more volatile gases which may be present as impurities are not condensed and are eliminated by the vacuum pump. To obtain an uninterrupted operation two condensers are employed alternately, one being immersed in the cold liquid while the other is heated to evaporate the solidified krypton and xenon, which are collected.
