Abstract

420,416. Conveyers. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(National Equipment Co.; 3640, Main Street, Spring- field, Massachusetts. U.S.A.) Feb. 16, 1934, No. 5163. [Class 78 (i)] A transfer device for interposition between two non-parallel conveyers effective to turn articles such as confections, without dropping them or changing their order, through less than 180‹ comprises a flexible belt 12, Fig. 1, made up in the form of a hollow cone. The belt may consist of paper, canvas, or the like, Fig. 8 of sector formation. The angle a will vary according to the angle between conveyers b, c, Fig. 1. Edges 11 are secured together to form a cone. The belt is supported on a plane surface 14 having two intersecting side edges 15 with a preferably rounded corner 16. The edges are not necessarily at right angles. The belt hangs down as in Fig. 2 being pressed as by the weight of an idler roller 17, and is driven by rolls 19 in such a way that a radial as well as a tangential pull is imparted thereto. An opening 20 in the surface 14 allows the lower roll 19 to engage the belt. The axis of the rolls are not parallel to the radial line l, hence the belt is stretched outwardly. The rolls are driven from a motor 28. The idler roller 17 is preferably conical and has trunnions 30, 31 at its ends. The front trunnion is mounted in a bearing 33 and held against undue axial movement by a collar 34. The bearing block 33 is pivoted to radius links 35. The rear trunnion 30 is slidable in guides 32. The idler is then free to follow the belt. The transfer device is mounted between the ends of conveyers b, c, the edges of which are adjacent edges 15 of the transfer device.
