Abstract
Products stated to be useful as wetting, emulsifying, cleansing, and softening agents are obtained by treating dimethylolurea with ethyleneoxide and esterifying the resulting intermediate product with a fatty acid or active derivative thereof. Preferably, over ten molecular proportions of ethylene oxide per molecule of dimethylolurea are employed. In an example, an intermediate product thus obtained is esterified with lauric acid chloride in the presence of triethylamine. The products improve the fastness to rubbing of vat dyestuffs, being vat retarding agents and may be used, generally as assistants in the textile industry.ALSO:Products stated to be useful as emulsifying agents are obtained by treating dimethylolurea with ethylene oxide, preferably in the proportion of over ten molecules of the latter to one of the former, and esterifying the resulting intermediate product with a fatty acid or derivative thereof. The esterification of dimethylolurea with stearic and lauric acid, after condensation with ethylene oxide is described.
