Abstract
420,112. Heating water. STOTT & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., J., and SCHOFIELD, L., Vernon Works, Lee Street, Oldham. July 21, 1933, No. 20596. [Class 64 (i)] In a water heater for restaurants, &c., having a tubular extension column 3 from the annular water column 1 surrounding a boiler 6 and containing an expansion tube 7 connecting the boiler 6 to near the top of the extension tube 3, and a draw-off pipe 20 connecting an expansion chamber or cup 8 at the top of the extension tube with a tap 21 outside the column, an inverted bell shaped float 14 encircles the upper part of the expansion tube and carries an arm 17 controlling a valve 13 connected with the gas supply to decrease it on formation of excess steam. The arm 17 acts on the spring-pressed valve 13 through a rod 18 in a tube 19, or as shown in Fig. 4, acts directly on the valve which is placed in a cup 4 at the head of the extension column. A steam vent is formed by a pipe 22 leading from the upper part of the expansion tube to outside' the extension column. Water is fed to the column 1 through a ball valve and passes to the base of the boiler 6 through a pipe 9.
