Abstract
420,059. Parachutes. IRVING AIR CHUTE OF CREAT BRITAIN, Ltd., Icknield Way, Letchworth, Hertfordshire.-(Lundholm, C. H. ; 4, Vastra Tradgardsgatan, Stockholm) July 26, 1934, No. 21927. [Class 4] Means for securing together the flaps of a parachute pack comprise a member 6 converging from a central portion towards its end portions and having apertures 7, 8 near the end portions for receiving locking-pins, wires or the like. As shown, the flaps 1, 2, 3, 4 are provided with eyelets engaging the members 6. A locking-wire 9 terminating in a rip-ring 11 passes through the apertures 7 and locking- wires 10 connected to a static line 15 engage the apertures 8. The wire 9 passes through a flexible cable 12 and the wires 10 through flexible cables 13 and then through an aperture 14 in the flap 4. The line 15 carries a closure disc 16 for the aperture 14 and a snap hook 17 for connection to the aircraft and is folded into a pocket formed by flaps 5 secured by cords and situated on the flap 4. Elastic cords 19 effect opening of the flap and a subsidiary flap 18 secured to the flap 2 and adapted to protect the wire 9 is secured in place at its free edge by press buttons. The holes 7, 8 are countersunk and the members 6 may be spherical, double conical, or double pyramidical and their length may be twice their width. One or more of the members 6 may be used.
