Abstract

459,222. Parachutes. SZALAY, G., 10, Boniczky utca, Matyasfold, Hungary. April 1, 1935, No. 10128. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 1, 1935]. [Class 4] A parachute comprises a plurality of canopies disposed coaxially one within the other, air vents being formed in the outer canopy and a rigid ring being connected by pivoted arms in the mouth of the inmost canopy. The outermost canopy 1, Fig. 2, is of part spherical form, the inner canopies 2 are of conical form and successively decrease in width whilst increasing in length toward the central canopy. Uniformly distributed vents 3 are provided in canopy 1. Suspension cords 4 run to a common point from the edges of the various elements. To ensure opening of the parachute a ring 5 is centrally disposed in the inmost element 2<1> and is connected to its periphery by pivoted arms 7, Fig. 4, which occupy the position shown in Fig. 5 when the parachute is folded. The parachute may be maintained in a folded state by paper strips adapted to tear automatically as a result of the movements of the person jumping. According to modifications the superposed canopies may be of the same dimensions, air-escape openings being formed in each sheet and being disposed chess-board fashion with relation to the openings in the adjacent sheets, and more than one opening ring 5 may be provided.
