Abstract
462,671. Parachutes. NONAKA, S. Sept. 10, 1935, No. 25166. [Class 4] A parachute comprises a body portion 1 with an adjustable air-escape port, formed by a movable annular flap portion 2 connected by cords 6 to a central suspension cord 7 which is attached to a cord 8 extending across the flap portion. The cord 7 which is passed through a floating ring 10, a fixed ring 9 and again through the ring 10 is then connected to shroud lines 13 which are passed through a perforated eye-member 12 attached to the harness 11. With the parachute in the condition indicated by the unbroken lines in Fig. 2, the initial opening is effected by the expansion of the sail portion 1 to the position 1<1>, indicated by the chaindotted lines, with consequent movement ot the ring 10 towards the fixed ring 9. Subsequently the eye member 12 and the harness 11 assume the position indicated by the single chain-dotted lines, and when the pressure of the air within the parachute sail increases, the annular portion 2 tends to open to the position indicated at 2<1> to an extent determined by the resistance of the load applied through the suspension cord 7 and the cords 6. The extent to which the cord 7 is pulled by the shroud lines 13 is limited by the perforated eye-member 12.
