Abstract
419,947. Friction clutches. LUSSE, R. J., 2809, North Fairhill Street, Philadelphia, U.S.A. May 18, 1933, No. 14420. [Class 80 (ii).] The driving hub u, Fig. 2, of a centrifugal clutch has radial pins v on which bushed arcuate blocks x, provided with friction facings, slide outwardly under centrifugal action into contact with a driven drum q, the blocks being normally retracted by an encircling spring band z disposed in a peripheral groove therein. The drum has cooling ribs r, and lubricating passages 11 for the pins v are formed in the blocks. In a modification, bushed arcuate blocks 16, Fig. 3, are pivotally mounted on pins 14 arranged longitudinally between side plates 13 secured to the hub u, the blocks being adapted to swing under centrifugal action into contact with the drum q and being normally retracted by the encircling spring band 19. Friction facings 17 are secured to the blocks by screws 18.
